Why ostriches

struisvogelvlees

Ostrich meat - Premium choice

  • A tender, lean and healthy piece of ostrich steak has all the taste, colour and texture of beef steak - but with significantly less fat and cholesterol. High in protein and low in calories, ostrich makes the perfect red meat alternative in an increasingly health-conscious world.

Ostrich leather

  • Ostrich leather is supple, luxurious and hard wearing
  • Fashion houses have turned to this leather for its excellent qualities in the use of shoes, jackets, handbags, belts and wallets. Ostrich leather has a unique and distinctive pattern.
  • The natural oils inherent in ostrich skin make this leather much more resistant to cracking, stiffening and drying.

Ecologically efficient production

  • Ostriches produce some of the world’s finest meat, leather, feathers, oil and  they do so at unprecedented levels of efficiency.
  • Ostriches are far more prolific and efficient than cattle. The productivity of ostriches varies widely, but even a conservative estimate of 20 offspring yearlings a year, based on annual production of 40-50 eggs, compares more favorably than cattle productivity.

Climate-friendly

  • Animal welfare rules are respected while ostrich production greatly reduces the impact on our environment and climate compared to other livestock species.
  • They consume less water and feed  than conventional livestock.
  •  There is less soil pollution with nitrogen and phosphorus  from their urine and  manure.
  • Our ostriches are raised in open fields, far from the confined and crowded environment factory farms. No steroids, hormones, or antibiotics are used.
